We wanted to save money
In the recording: 0:03–0:03 · 1:35–2:18.
My wife and I started From Seed to Spoon.
We wanted to save money because organic food is really expensive. But pretty quickly when I tasted that first spinach leaf out of the garden, it all changed for me. I tasted something cool and crisp, and it was unlike anything I've ever had before. That was the moment where it became more than just saving money for me.
Customized planting dates
In the recording: 3:16–3:21 · 3:43–4:04 · 4:24–4:31.
Last year my wife and I started learning how to code.
Once you tap on the plant we will give you customized planting dates that are based on where you live, and we use your GPS location to calculate this. This works anywhere in the United States, and even internationally you can choose your coldest and hottest day, and we calculate off of that as well. We’ll give you all the information you need about how to grow food, all of it right there in your pocket.
Everything that we've learned from converting our backyard we put into this app.
We use their feedback
In the recording: 4:28–5:02 · 5:12–5:20.
We released our app in January, and pretty quickly it took off. We've been overwhelmed with support from our users. They really liked the app, and they've really helped us evolve the app along the way. We use their feedback to guide what we adjust and what we change, and we have updates coming out every couple weeks.
We have not focused really on making money so far though. We have focused on building value and trying to solve all the problems related to growing food.
Our big vision
In the recording: 5:45–5:58 · 6:11–6:25 · 8:19–8:25.
We’re working on establishing an online store, so instead of linking to Amazon we sell products directly through the app.
Our big vision is we want to make it easy for people to grow food without having to think about it, and we want to start sending people seeds, supplies and fertilizer to their door when they need it, so they don't have to think about what they need to do.
I would love to be able to do this full-time. I want to dedicate my life to making it easy for everyone to grow food.
