Teaching coding on Earth Day

I had such a fun Earth Day morning at John Rex Middle School teaching 6th graders about coding!
We spent some time explaining the different jobs available in software development, and then walked them through some fun coding challenges in Scratch, a coding language for kids built by MIT.
They broke into teams and had to develop algorithms to move watermelon around a farm as efficiently as possible.
I overheard one girl saying “this makes me feel so powerful!” after seeing her program run, and the kids seemed to love it across the board. I can’t articulate how fulfilling and energizing it is to have these experiences!
